Hello! I’ve been going out with M for a bit over a year now and things couldn’t be going better. We on-line together, have two cats and it’s the best relationship I could ask for, but the only issue is I feel like he resents me for my race and I don’t know how to fix it. He’s a black man who grew up around a lot of racism so it makes sense that he holds resentment towards white people, but I didn’t think that meant me as well. We were having a conversation a few days ago about race, when he said “all white people are racist regardless of age gender etc., even you” and it’s been stuck in my head since. I asked him if he could think of anything I’ve done with him that would make him say that and while he said he couldn’t think of anything, that just meant I was less racist then everyone else. He brings it up often to the point where it’s really starting to make me feel bad. (I can’t just change my skin color and I don’t want my boyfriend to think I’m racist in any way) it makes me feel like he doesn’t see me as an equal, just someone who oppressed him in the past. What can I say or do to make this better?

Edit: I feel I should add the fact that he believes he can’t be racist with these comments because his race is the most discriminated against so me bringing up him being racist doesn’t help in our conversations (thank you for all of the wonderful comments though!!! They’re extremely helpful!)
